About Me - Kirsty!
Originally from England, I am a Royal School of Music Grade 8 Vocalist, teaching and coaching Vocals / Singing, Piano and Music Theory lessons face to face and via video calling platforms both nationally and international.
I am very lucky to have been trained in classical vocal technique by some top professionals. I now combine this classical technique in all styles of music giving the best possible control to all styles of singing.
I am now a Vocal and Piano Teacher and Coach and very passionate about what I do. I pride myself in teaching to the individual according to my students learning needs and aims.
MY HISTORY
I started my piano and vocal training from a very young age with my first solo at 4 years old. I started my formal training with singing and Piano lessons from the age of 6 through Hindhead School of Music.
I went on to be a part of the Hampshire County Choir and Chamber Choir as well as taking part in School and College Choirs, Bands and Orchestras.
I am privileged to have toured and performed in places such as Norway, Belgium, Italy, France and Northumberland and honored to perform in concert halls, theaters and cathedrals including the prestigious Royal Albert Hall.
I have appeared on television a number of times including a performance for “Children In Need” a charity which raises money for children in England and Africa. Another huge honor was to perform on stage with some great stars including jazz legend Dave Brubeck.
Having moved to South Africa in 2009 I was a finalist in South African 2016 Onesto “The Search” competition and was honored to be a 2017 competition judge.
I am now a Vocal, Piano and Music Theory Teacher and Coach and love what I do.
Keagan Kirsch
As a South Africa professional I offer Guitar, Bass Guitar and Music Production Lessons across various genres, with advanced expertise in Rock and Blues.
About Me – Keagan!
Born in South Africa, I have been playing guitar for over 16 years and performing professionally for the past 10 years. I specialize in teaching guitar from absolute beginners to intermediate players across various genres, with advanced expertise in Rock and Blues.
I’ve had the privilege of performing alongside notable South African acts such as Painted Flowers, Black Cat Bones, and Bam Bam Brown. In addition, I’ve written, performed, and recorded music with my own projects, including Zephyr Heirs, Roadkill, and my current band, Later Alligator. These projects reflect a wide range of styles and showcase my versatility as a guitarist.
As a passionate musician, vocalist, and guitarist, I remain active in the music scene while dedicating my time to teaching. I’m committed to sharing the joy of music with my students, helping them develop skills that will bring fulfillment and creativity for a lifetime.
MY JOURNEY
I first picked up a guitar at boarding school in Johannesburg, where I and a group of friends spent countless hours teaching and inspiring each other. By my matric year, I had started my first band and began performing. After high school, I pursued music production at the SABC Academy of Sound Engineering, where I also completed Grades in Guitar and Music Theory.
In 2015, I co-founded Zephyr Heirs, a band that toured extensively across South Africa and regularly performed in Johannesburg and Pretoria. Our music received radio play, and my guitar work is featured prominently in our recordings.
Although I have been sharing my knowledge informally since I started playing, I began teaching guitar professionally in 2020. This journey started during lockdown, and since then, I have worked with students of all ages, sharing the excitement and joy of learning music. Watching students discover their potential and grow in confidence has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my career.
Jamie Porteous
I offer drumming lessons across all genres and styles from the absolute beginner to advanced, for students of all ages. I am all about individuality, and I am here to offer a tailored learning experience based off of your personal taste and interests... let's learn together!
About Me – Jamie!
I have been playing drums for two decades and have played in various bands through the years - from weddings and corporate events, to bars and open mics, I have fully immersed myself in my passion for playing drums. You will always find me with a pair of sticks and a practice pad in my bag.
My love for music lead me to auditioning for Berklee College of Music, the experience of auditioning alone lead me to starting my teaching career and sharing everything I know and have learned through my years drumming with as many people as I can.
MY JOURNEY
I have acquired my Grade 8 in Drumming through Rockschool and have had the privilege to teach music to all kinds of students - from little ones at Crawford Pre Primary to retired adults looking to acquire a new skill.
I also write and record my own music, with a heavy influence from all the various genres that I have played along the way - starting with metal drumming, branching out into pop/rock, jazz and folk.
